August 7th, we honor National Purple Heart Day. Established by George Washington in 1782, the Purple Heart is the oldest American military medal. It recognizes the brave men and women who were wounded or killed in enemy action while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The color purple of the heart-shaped medal symbolizes courage and bravery. Let us remember and honor those who sacrificed for our nation.
